Cutting Through Rocks follows Sara Shaverdi, the first female
councillor in an Iranian village. She challenges patriarchal social norms, imposed on her and all the women in the town, by
trying to put an end to arranged child marriages, teaching girls how to ride motorcycles, and providing legal advice to women
in town. Because of her passion to empower women and refusal to conform her intentions are questioned and her identity faces
serious accusations. The story of her political activism shows the importance of strong voices who do not fear to speak for
the marginalised.
