The Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media RFoM and the Austrian Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs, in cooperation with Filmdelights are organizing a screening of the documentary film Eternal You on Tuesday, 10 th September 2024 at 6 pm at Top Kino, followed by a panel discussion.

Directed by the award-winning film makers Hans Block and Moritz Riesewieck, Eternal You explores how generative AI is used to create applications to "communicate" and keep "contact" with people after death. In this new growth market of digital immortality, the digital afterlife industry promises new forms of remembrance, a new culture of mourning and coming to terms with death. This raises a variety of ethical and human rights- and security- related questions ranging from dignity, autonomy, privacy (including post mortem) and mental health, to the risk of manipulation. Considering the rapid development of generative AI applications that are increasingly convincing in imitating human characteristics, speech, and personality traits, the film raises broader concerns about emotion and information manipulation, as well as about the impact of AI on the integrity of information and information spaces. These challenges call for an in depth reflection and human rights based regulation.

The screening will be followed by an expert panel discussion, exploring issues related to ethical questions, the right to privacy, information integrity and freedom of expression in the age of generative AI, as well as the role of States in ensuring technology is centered on human rights and public interest.
